In Sports, Sexual Harassment is an Excused Joke

We don't know of a single woman who really believes that men view sexual harassment as a serious problem that they need to address to find a solution. This is not a problem caused by women, so why do women have to work so hard to try to solve it? Here's an example of why we women know Men in general take sexual harassment as a joke.

The Women's Sports Foundation issued a seething letter today to the WNBA Board of Governors over their shock of the hiring by the WNBA of Isiah Thomas as the new President of the Liberty. Mr. Thomas, the former Knicks head coach, was fired and sued for sexual harassment of his colleague, Anucha Browne Sanders.

According to an article in New Republic, "All the way back in 2007, Thomas and his then- (and now current) employer, James Dolan, and the Madison Square Garden Corporation were forced to pay a former executive, Anucha Browne-Sanders, $11.6 million in jury-awarded punitive damages, after a trial that made the New York Knicks come across as a deranged frat house."

Bernie Sanders Wants Co-ops

Bernie Sanders is suggesting a way that we can decrease the corporate greed in America - form co-ops in business.

Today, there are 11,000 worker-owned companies in the United States, and there are up to 120 million Americans who are involved in some form of co-op if you include credit unions in the tally.

The Sanders campaign states:

We need to develop new economic models to increase job creation and productivity. Instead of giving huge tax breaks to corporations which ship our jobs to China and other low-wage countries, we need to provide assistance to workers who want to purchase their own businesses by establishing worker-owned cooperatives. Study after study shows that when workers have an ownership stake in the businesses they work for, productivity goes up, absenteeism goes down and employees are much more satisfied with their jobs.

Anheuser-Busch – Do You Have Any Woman Making Decisions?

In hierarchies, the top believes it knows what is best for everyone below, and so there is no need to consult lower groups. Can we assume that the top brass at Anheuser-Busch are all clueless men? Or can we assume that only women who have been programmed to believe like these clueless men become promoted to positions of decision-making?

A social media storm has developed over the labels describing Bud Light as “The perfect beer for removing ‘no’ from your vocabulary for the night,” claiming by many, including us, to feed into the date rape culture on college campuses across our country. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Bud Light label went through at least five layers of approval before it landed on the front of beer bottles.

Vincent Cicchirillo, assistant advertising professor at the University of Texas, said, “Clearly, a disconnect with the pulse of society and the higher ups.” More than that, insulting, violence promoting, and plain ridiculous, but typical of the clueless top.

Time to find your locally made and owned craft beer and make the switch.

NYC Gay Men Boycotted for Support of Ted Cruz

How would you feel as an African American if one of yours hosted a reception in his or her penthouse on Central Park in New York for an outspoken Klu Klux Klan national leader, posting with pride a picture with the KKK guru?

You get the picture of how many members of the LGBT community are feeling about the fact that developers Mati Weiderpass and Ian Reisner, hosted an event in their home for Ted Cruz, Republican presidential candidate and one of the most open and strong opponents of same-sex marriage.

A boycott of the properties of Mr. Reisner and Mr. Weiderpass is in progress.

Scientists: Guns in Homes Means Danger

In an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, titled,  "There's scientific consensus on guns - and the NRA won't like it," David Hemenway, a professor at Harvard's School of Public Health writes: 

Scientific consensus isn't always right, but it's our best guide to understanding the world. Can reporters please stop pretending that scientists, like politicians, are evenly divided on guns? We're not.

Of the 150 scientists who responded to a survey, most were confident that a gun in the home increases the chance that a woman living there will be murdered, that strict gun control laws reduce homicide, that more permissive gun laws have not reduced crime rates, that guns are used more often in crimes that in self-defense, and that a gun in the home makes it a more dangerous place to be.

Must be another reason the NRA appears to want a gun in everyone's hand. Is it the fact that a group of people who are accustomed to being on top of our country's hierarchies (the NRA is led mostly by white males) are using guns to make up for their lack of power and control as our hierarchies continue to fall?

Football - Top of the Hierarchy Sport not so Desirable

Karen Kinzle Zegel married a man who was a football fanatic. Her son became a football fanatic. As a player in high school, he was a star, going on to play at Dartmouth.

But her son's personality changed, and he could not function normally. He felt his life was no longer worth living, and he committed suicide.

Examinations of the brain of her son, Patrick Risha, 32, at the University of Pittsburgh and Boston University revealed chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or C.T.E., the degenerative disease caused by repeated blows to the head that has been found in the brains of dozens of former football players. C.T.E. has been linked to depression, impulsive actions and short-term memory loss, among other symptoms.

Power, money, and glory seem to draw so many to the top of hierarchies, in this case, the sports hierarchy of the United States, where a sport exclusively for half of the population dominates. But, as usual in hierarchies, striving for the top isn't what it is appears to be.

Bible Condemns Left-Handers Too

For those who use "Religious Freedom" to justify discrimination, how about using the Bible to justify discrimination against left-handers?

Apparently the Bible mentions left-handers and implies being left-handed is a sin 25 times. We came around about that, so in time we will, as a whole society, understand that people who aren't heterosexual are natural creations of diversity also. We are well on our way.
